About

Paula Halifax, ABOC, FNAO

I discovered optics at a young age but thought my path needed to be more corporate, management, etc. I liked optics but wanted to go up the corporate ladder and optical was just a way to do that.

I left the corporate world and left optics for a very short time but it called me back. I entered the world of, what I call, true opticianry and never looked back.

About seven years ago, I had an opportunity to work with a variety of patients, including children, some with special needs, as well as adults who needed some extra special attention to their optical needs.

Here are some things I have seen over the years which led up to me starting this business. Sadly, there are a lot of opticians out there who write children off as their measurements aren’t important, they’ll grow out of them quickly anyway. If the patient has any type of special need and requires even more time, more patience, etc, not every optician is trained to handle that.

If a patient has always struggled to see out of their glasses, I dig in and work to find out why.

I love putting a pair of glasses on someone, especially those who don’t have a voice they can express, and see when their eyes connect with the correct measurements and their eyes start tracking their world with a whole new expression.

Through conversation with a family member and other patients, I learned a clinic type setting isn’t always the best. Sometimes its due to the trauma clinic settings bring up, sometimes it’s due to a mom or dad having to bring in their other children as well. I decided I needed to do something about it, I started investing in equipment, started opening accounts, and purchasing some Tomato frames.

This is when the business was born!

I am a board certified optician. Kansas and Missouri do not require certification to sell eyewear but I think it is important to have. I also attend continuing education to learn and perfect what I do. I am passionate about taking a patient’s eyeglass prescription, discussing their optical needs, and filling it the best way.

I have over 25 years experience in optical. I have worked with patients as young as 8 months up to 103.

So, if you need a qualified, educated, patient optician to come to you, instead of coming into the clinic, reach out to me.
